HEADLINE: Isotonic or Isochronic - Are we falling for a sugar coated sales pitch?

Contribution deadline: End

Abstract: They told us to "just do it," so we're doing it. Hiking, biking, mountain climbing - you name it. But as the weather heats up, dehydration can be a big problem. You've got to drink something, and enough of it, or you risk heat stroke or another heat-related illness. But with a blistering array of energy drinks and nutrition advice to choose from, what exactly should we be drinking in to cool down?

Fact is, unless you're one of the elite group of athletes working toward a 2012 medal, you're probably over doing it when it comes to the isotonic and glucose rich sports drinks you carry about the gym and the sports pitch. Sure they replace lost energy, but how do you know the point at which you've actually replaced the energy you've lost?
